How Cooling Tunnels Work?
Cooling tunnels are critical pieces of equipment in food processing, confectionery manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and hot-filling lines. They ensure products reach the target temperature quickly, uniformly, and hygienically after baking, frying, enrobing, or filling.
A cooling tunnel is essentially an elongated chamber through which products move on a conveyor belt. The system uses blowers, heat exchangers, or water spray systems to remove heat from products as they pass through. Cooling tunnels are similar to air convection ovens, but they have no heating capacity—they only remove heat.

There are two basic operational types:
Continuous cooling tunnels are designed for applications where all products require the same cool-down period.
Discontinuous cooling tunnels allow products to exit the tunnel as soon as the desired end temperature is reached. These are more expensive but require less energy due to greater efficiency.
